Installation by Denise Maud
2024, 4-channel audio
and 2-channel video installation
The roughly 26-hour audio installation depicts the heart- beats of Denise Maud and her daughter, the artist’s contractions and the child’s movement during the process of the birth. Denise Maud once again explores the intertwining of machines within human life, making their integ- ration a focal point of her work. The machine in this case CTG takes the place of a witness to a birth of a child. Cardiotocography (CTG) is used to monitor the fetal heartbeat and the mother’s uterine contractions during pregnancy and labour.
With help of the composer and sound artist, Pascal Lund- Jensen, the graphs were transcribed into sound which can be listened to in an immer- sive experience. The artwork is therefore a witness to the process of giving birth. In the exhibition the audio is accom- panied by visuals to create an immersive experience for the viewer.
