APTERYGOTA
2022

sound installation with exciters

Apterygota are a subclass of small, ground-dwelling insects.

The installation represents a community of beings whose individual and group dynamics are fluid and constantly evolving. These dynamics of group behaviour are continuously changing, building up and disintegrating. A scenario is presented in which some entities behave similarly, while others exhibit different patterns. Communication, conflict and chaotic interactions unfold among the ground-dwelling insects, creating a continuous evolution of shape-shifting, evolving abilities and intuitive transformations.
As the observer navigates through the installation, they can observe how the creatures try to distance themselves from each other or draw closer together in order to understand their fellow inhabitants. The dynamics within the group fluctuate, and some voluntarily or involuntarily become entangled in the complicated process. This fluid and dynamic exchange unfolds quickly, revealing group dynamics, disconnected conversations and loners within the community.
